Magnetic technology to deliver better breast cancer care

Endomag is improving the standard of cancer care by providing accurate, convenient, and less-invasive solutions for diagnosis and treatment. Using magnetic sensing and nanotechnology, their minimally invasive surgical guidance system enables physicians to carry out tumour localisations and breast cancer staging with one platform, providing breakthroughs in the treatment of breast cancer care which benefits patients and physicians. Using Endomag technologies over 450,000 women have received a better standard of breast surgery at more than 1000 hospitals. NICE guidance recommends Endomag’s technology for locating sentinel lymph nodes.

Special Agent worked closely with Endomag to develop, refine, and prove the approach of identifying and locating magnetic markers during sentinel lymph node biopsies. Magnetic and thermal modelling and creative design were used to develop an optimised magnetic tracer detection ‘wand’ which delivers improved sensitivity and improved surgical performance while maintaining the simplicity of use for which the SentiMag® instrument is known.

Endomag has won two ‘Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, Innovation’ for the work done to harness magnetics to improve breast cancer care worldwide.
